Mods, please feel free to move if you think this would best be shown elsewhere as I did not know where to place it.

I have determined to attempt to start a small dubia roach colony. I blame Bird Man for his knowledge and Rob for his wonderful youtube videos and his lovely wife for her input too. The three of you have convinced me that this would be the most economical way to go about feeding all stages of tarantulas.

However, there isnt any place that I know of that sells these little darlings. If someone could assist me in finding a reasonably priced starter colony, egg crates and the water crystals to make my own water gel I would be oh so very thankful!

Also, any tips you can think of would be fantastic.

Thanks once again to Bird Man, Rob and his lovely wife D for informing me of this marvelous way to save $!

You can get them pretty much anywhere, even places you least expect. For egg crates I just use the ones that come with my eggs from the store and break them up, and TP, and paper towel rolls. Makes collecting babies much easier. For water, I don't use those crystals, I just take my spray bottle and give them a big spray down and they are good for a couple days, they get misted with the T's so it's enough to support my large colony. Also I put a bit of peat in the bottom for babies to hide in, but turns out it also holds water for them to drink and they also eat it, it turns out. The babies also eat the poop from the adults so not soo much cleaning to do either.

For food I give them all kinds of veggies and cat food, some people mash it up, I just toss it in and they go at it like no tomorrow. Also every other week they get oranges, seems citrus makes them breed better, I just use oranges, but some use grapefruit, never heard of people use anything other then those two.

If you need dubias, just send me a PM. I can send you a small colony to get you started.
